Rick Waters left town with a carnival to escape the sentence handed down on his twenty first birthday by a judge in Palmer. He was going to be free, but at what cost.
Chapter One - Gravity
The district courthouse in Three Rivers,
Massachusetts could be mistaken for a small Quaker church by anyone not
familiar with its use. The courtroom is part of a single floor building
with an entrance at each end and one entering the middle of the
building off of Main St. When it was empty of defendants and police,
judges and jurors, the courtroom looked like a sanctuary.
The
presiding judge sits in a raised, legal pulpit, straddled by two lower
tiers. On his right sat the prosecutor and on the left a witness chair.
Below them, spanning the width of this legal alter, sat the clerk of
courts. The defendants for the day sit in pews. Before the start of the
day the clerk does a roll call of people in attendance to organize the
cases and after each defendant had been ordered to comply, the clerk
would call out another name until the list was finished. Halfway
through the day they called out his name.
"Rick Waters"
He
slid out of the pew. There was a mark on the floor where all the
defendants would stand when their case was called. As he passed through
the swinging door of the wooden railing that separated the courtroom
from the gallery, it creaked its announcement at the arrival of the
next offender. The courtroom would become quiet as each case was heard.
The
judge continued flipping through his record as Rick stood in front of
the altar. They were plenty of records to look through. The
prosecutor's point of view was that it was time to send Rick Waters in
for some real consequences. Her recommendation was that because Mr.
Waters had not completed any of his probationary duties, there was
nothing keeping the court from confining him to complete the two year
suspended sentence handed down ten months ago by a visiting judge.
"Your
honor, Mr. Waters has been in and out of this courtroom on misdemeanor
charges involving alcohol since he was approximately sixteen." "His non
compliance with the terms of his probation gives us no other option but
to confine him for the remainder of his sentence up to and until he
completes the terms of his confinement or he completes a program of
alcohol and life skills while incarcerated."
After the
prosecutor finished with her recommendation the judge spoke. He looked
up from the files in front of him and into the eyes of the defendant to
make sure that he understood what was happening and why he was here.
"I
am revoking your probation Mr. Waters." "Due to your inability to meet
the demands of your probationary sentence, you must now submit yourself
to confinement in the Hampden county jail for no less than six months
and no more than twenty four months." "That period of confinement
begins the thirtieth of January and will continue at the jail on York
St. until you complete your sentence in full or are released after
successfully finishing the program of life skills and alcohol abuse
counseling inside of York St."
"Mr. Waters I recommend that you
get your things in order." "You have five days until your sentence
begins, don't do anything stupid before then." The gavel sounded and it
was then that suddenly, magically, his public defender appear, if only
to usher him toward the probation office.
"You're lucky, usually
they just remand people right off to jail." "Make sure to check with
the probation office and pay your fee before you go." "And I don't have
to tell you what will happen if you don't show up in five days kid..."
As
soon as he walked out of the courthouse Rick knew it was time to get
out of town or he'd spend his twenty first birthday in jail and his
twenty second too.

The 2009 U.S. Nationals Prove the Mettle of the Men and Women of the NHRA MORE
The U.S. Nationals were held in Indianapolis this past weekend and the team of John Force was not going to be denied. Ashley Force won the event in Nitro Fuel Funny Car while teammate Robert Hight filled the last position in the race to the championship, eliminating Cruz Pedregon from the Nitro Fuel Funny Car championship race.
During the few moments that JFR had to enjoy their wins, Team Pedregon began running their mouth about how unfair John Force must be. How unsportsman like John is to be able to win when he wants to and lose right on time. "Enough is enough", says John and the cat was out of the bag. John made sure that Tony Pedregon knew his displeasure in Tony's remarks on the events that transpired. No matter how smooth you want to appear, it doesn't make you smooth Tony. Just ask John, who gave more to the NHRA than any other competitor. John knows he's the best in the business, along with his family and tradition to prove a point.

Final Push for 2009 Division 4 NHRA Drag Racing
Our racing schedule really kicks into high gear now that the weather
is expected to cool down just enough to produce the best racing
conditions we'll see all year. Expected elapsed times include 6.78 for
TS46, 6.69 for TD4200, and 8.32 for SP4550.
September 12th and 13th is our next event for SP4550.
The whole team understands that now is the time to get everything ready
for the invitational bracket finals in Ennis, TX two weeks after this
coming weekend's event. Fourth in points is a great way to take the
bracket team into the Texas Motorplex for this year's bracket finals.
Winner gets an invitation to California. Keep an eye out for the
results as they happen over the next few weeks!
The NHRA Divisional races get back underway the weekend of September 18, 19, and 20.
Both Divisional entrants of our team sit just below where they would
like to be come the end of the year. TS46 is 20th and TD4200 is 23rd.
With wins in each class giving out 100's of points, 20th is not a bad
place to be when everything goes your way at the track. This is the
year before the team goes to the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Being
competitive in the national events takes a consistent career in
divisionals and our goal is to take advantage of every event we go to with our team for Houston NHRA drag racing & Nitrous Oxide refills

Inside is the debate of a Federal Trade Commission inquiry into false advertising and the internet. The discussions that the Federal Trade Comission had with respondents who either complained about "The Guide" or offered their expertise in the debate are detailed on the pages of this FTC report. After reading the document, you will find that the debate takes away some of the freedoms that had been previously enjoyed by internet publishers, bloggers, writers, and advertisers. With the new, proposed changes, not only will the product maker be adversely treated for making unfounded claims about a product, but the publisher, the endorser, and the celebrity endorsement of the product could be busted for false advertising.
"Blogger, advertisers, writers, webmasters, HTML, CSS, programmers, coders, and anyone who has a hand in placing an ad or a recommendation about a product could find themselves paying far more than any benefits they garnished from the product maker for making the recommendation, ad post, or endorsement if the product proves unable to live up to the hype.
Inside "The FTC Guide", you will read what constitutes "Fair Advertising" and how the "average" person should be able to achieve any goal that is purported to be achievable by the product. The most noteworthy products that could be the first to go under the knife of these new regulations are in the weight-loss, and money-making industries. Highly advertised, these products could fall far short of their advertisements when the consumer purchases the product and attempts to achieve the same results as the endorsement. If they are unable, according to the ad, to get out of the product what the advertisement said, they would have a claim under these new guides for restitution and even punitive damages. "And forget about just going after the product maker, or the designer of the ad."
Every Publisher, blogger, product maker, celebrity, and product advertisement will come under this new umbrella of fair advertising.
